Carigiet, A.

...In East Germany, there was Werner Klemke, who used pastel painting to great effect. In Switzerland, there were many artists with a pure style, including Ernst Kreidolf (1863-1956) in the early 20th century, Alois Carigiet, who was active in posters but also drew picture books full of life set in mountain villages in the Alps, Hans E. Fischer, who drew light and elegant lines, and Felix Hoffmann, who turned Grimm's fairy tales into picture books with profound realism, all of whom produced beautiful, elegant, and supremely artistic picture books.
[France]
In France, Rodolphe Töpfer (1799-1846), who also influenced Bush, was the leader, followed by G. Doret, who was a skilled caricaturist, and then Boutet de Monvel (1850-1913), who illustrated Joan of Arc (1896) and other picture books. Eventually, French picture books came to dominate the world.
