Japanese: 霊猫香 - れいびょうこう

One of the animal fragrances. Also known as civet. It is made by collecting secretions from the scent sac near the genitals of civets. Both sexes have it, but it is mainly collected from males. It is a brown, semi-liquid substance that has a strong odor in its original form, but when diluted it gives off a fragrant scent. The aromatic component is civetone C ₁ ₇ H ₃ (/0)O. It is used to prolong the depth of the fragrance.

動物性香料の一つ。シベットとも。ジャコウネコ科の動物の性器近くにある香嚢中の分泌物を集めたもの。雌雄とももつが主に雄から採取する。褐色の半流動状の物質で，このままでは悪臭が強いが，希釈すると芳香を放つ。芳香成分はシベトンC₁₇H₃(/0)O。香りの深味を持続させるために用いられる。
