...The latter theory is that criminal behavior, like other non-criminal behavior, is learned through interaction with other people, and that people become criminals because they come into contact with criminal behavior and are isolated from non-criminal behavior. Modifications to this heterogeneous contact theory include D. Glaser's heterogeneous identification theory, which states that people commit crimes depending on the degree of self-identification with real or fictitious people who they think will accept their criminal behavior, and WC Reckless's self-concept theory, which states that a good image of oneself is an important factor in preventing delinquency. The anomie theory is Merton's original development of Durkheim's theory.
