Dibenzopyrazine. C 12 H 8 N 2 (180.21). It is produced by heating o -phenylenediamine and catechol in a sealed tube, or by passing aniline vapor through a red-hot tube. Yellow-red needle crystals. Melting point 171°C, boiling point over 360°C. Soluble in hot ethanol, slightly soluble in ether, and sparingly soluble in water. Sublimable. There are various dyes with a phenazine skeleton, collectively known as azine dyes.
