Mount Kinpu

Japanese: 金峰山 - きんぷさん
Mount Kinpu
A mountain on the border between Nagano and Yamanashi prefectures. One of the main peaks in the Chichibu Mountains. 2,599m above sea level. The summit is made of granite, and offers a panoramic view of the Japanese Alps, Mt. Asama, and Mt. Fuji. The mountain got its name from the fact that Takeda Shingen mined gold on the northern slope during the Sengoku period. Kinpusan Shrine is located on the summit, and at Kawahage, Kawakami Village, on the northern foot of the mountain, there is a golden-threaded streamer that is displayed to the public every May. The area around Odarumi Pass to the east is rich in plant groups such as Japanese white beet, spruce, and rowan. It belongs to Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park.

Mount Kinpu

Also known as Ichinodake and Kinbozan. It is the main peak of the Kinbo volcanic group in the west of Kumamoto City, in central Kumamoto Prefecture. It is 665m above sea level. It is a square-shaped mountain made of hornblende andesite, and was known in ancient times as a training ground for Shugendo sects in Higo Province. It is home to Reigando Cave at Ungan-ji Temple, where Miyamoto Musashi is said to have practiced Zen and written The Book of Five Rings. To the north is a teahouse on the pass that is associated with Natsume Soseki's Kusamakura. There are mandarin orange and pear orchards in the surrounding area. It belongs to Kinpusan Prefectural Natural Park.
