Oi [town] - Ooi
A former town in Oi District facing Obama Bay in the southwest of Fukui Prefecture. The area is mountainous and the Obama Line runs through it. In addition to rice, the town produces mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, nameko mushrooms, and other mushrooms. Fishing is also practiced. The Oshima Peninsula has beautiful seascapes and is part of the Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park. The Kansai Electric Power Company's Oi Nuclear Power Plant is located here. In March 2006, it merged with Nadasho Village, Oniki District, to become Oi Town, Oi District. Area: 68.07 km2 . Population: 6,445 (2003).
