A seaweed belonging to the family Bangiocarpus in the order Bangiocarpus. It is widely distributed in Japan, Australia, and the west coast of the United States, and grows on rocks and wooden pilings near the winter high tide line. The algae are soft and thin, and when they dry, they become shiny and hairy, hence the name. 紅藻類ウシケノリ目ウシケノリ科に属する海藻。日本をはじめオーストラリア,アメリカ西岸に広く分布し,冬季高潮線付近の岩石や木ぐいなどの上に着生する。藻体は細い糸状で軟らかく,乾燥すると光って毛状になるのでこの名がある。
