A Christian missionary organization. Its founder was William Merrell Vories (who became a naturalized citizen and changed his name to Hitotsuyanagi Mereru), an American born in Kansas who came to Omihachiman in 1905 through the mediation of the International YMCA. He established the Yawata YMCA, worked as an architect and evangelized while also working as an architect. In 1931, he organized the non-denominational Omi Mission. In 1934, it was renamed Omi Brotherhood. Yoshida Etsuzo, Murata Koichiro and others collaborated with him. He established churches in various locations around Lake Biwa, as well as sanatoriums, the Christian Charity Education Foundation, Sales Co., Ltd., kindergartens and libraries, and published the missionary magazine Voice of the Lakeside (1912-), investing the profits of his architectural firm and pharmaceutical company into these operations.
