(1886-1978), a well-known ethnomusicologist. Around 1940, he formed a group with Woody Guthrie (1912-67) and other friends and began performing. After World War II, he continued to sing while becoming deeply involved in social activities such as the anti-war movement, and wrote songs with socially conscious messages such as "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" …

...Musicologists who were colleagues, assistants, and research collaborators of Hornbostel in Berlin, including Sachs, M. Kolinski, C. Herzog, and MF Bukowzer, emigrated to the New World in the 1930s and 1940s, and this field flourished in America as ethnomusicology. In 1955, D. McAlester (1916- ), AP Merriam, W. Rose, and Charles Seeger (1886-1979), who were interested in the two research fields of cultural anthropology and musicology, founded the Society for Ethnomusicology.
