Basidiomycete, order Matsutake, family Cardinalaceae. In autumn, it grows in colonies or solitary on the ground under forests. The cap is 5-10 cm in diameter, with a stalk 1-2 cm thick and 4-9 cm tall. The surface is hairless and sticky, and when young it is brownish purple or purple, fading relatively quickly to clay-colored or brown spots, but the purple color remains on the edges. The spore print is rust-colored. It is edible. It is distributed in Hokkaido, Honshu, and Kyushu, and is also found in Europe and North America. 担子菌類マツタケ目フウセンタケ科。秋の頃,林下の地面に群生または孤生する。傘は直径5~10cmで,太さ1~2cm,高さ4~9cmの柄をもっている。表面無毛で粘りけがあり,幼時は帯褐紫色または紫色で,比較的早く色があせて粘土色または褐色の斑紋を生じるが,縁にはあとまで紫色が残る。胞子紋は錆色。食用となる。北海道,本州,九州に分布し,ヨーロッパ,北アメリカにも産する。
