...Synthetic rubber obtained by the condensation reaction of alkali polysulfides and organic dichlorides. It was first produced and sold in 1931 by the American Thiokol Chemical Company under the name Thiokol, and even today the name Thiokol is used as a synonym for polysulfide rubber. The greatest feature of polysulfide rubber is its excellent oil resistance, and this property is used to make oil-resistant industrial parts such as paint hoses and printing rolls.
