Kumakogen

Japanese:
Kumakogen

A plateau in the central part of Ehime Prefecture, spreading west of the Ishizuchi Mountains. It is a gentle slope spreading south of the mountain ranges of Mt. Ishizumi, Jingamori, and Saragamine, and is 400 to 600 meters above sea level. The geology is a base of Sanbagawa metamorphic rocks, covered with tertiary layers of the Ishizuchi Group (igneous rocks) and Kuma Group (sedimentary rocks). This surface has been denuded by tributaries of the upper Niyodo River basin, forming a group of small basins in a so-called pear-shelf style: Ninami, Tsuyumine, Kuma, Hatanogawa, Naose, and Kasakata. Elderly mountains are arranged around the basins, and the rivers on the plateau are actively eroding and filling the lateral sides, so they are close to equilibrium. The alluvial plain at the bottom of the basin and the surrounding diluvial plateau are extensive and are used for paddy fields and farmland. The hilly mountainous areas are thriving for highly productive forestry, tea, and highland vegetable production.
