A unit of illuminance in the CGS system, it is a non-SI unit. Its symbol is ph. It is the illuminance when a luminous flux of 1 lumen uniformly illuminates an area of ​​1 square centimeter. 1ph = 10 ⁴ lx (lux). It was legally adopted in France in 1919, and the name was given two years later. This unit is too large for practical use, so milliphotos are usually used. The photosecond is a CGS unit of exposure, approved by the International Commission on Illumination.
