hypo

Japanese: hypo
hypo

...Chemical formula: Na 2 S 2 O 3 . The commercially available product Na 2 S 2 O 3 ・5H 2 O is commonly and incorrectly called sodium hyposulfite, or hypo for short. This name comes from the misunderstanding that the formal monohydrate Na 2 S 2 O 3 ・H 2 O is sodium hyposulfite (correctly sodium hydrogen sulfoxylate) NaHSO 2 , and is easily confused with sodium dithionite Na 2 S 2 O 4 (commonly known as sodium hyposulfite), so it is not a correct name.
[nature]
The pentahydrate is a colorless monoclinic columnar crystal.
