...Chemical analysis of Earth's materials is limited to the very surface of the crust, and the chemical composition of the majority of the rest must be estimated based on reasonable assumptions. The chemical composition of the Earth's materials, or in other words, the chemical composition of the primordial solar nebula from which the Earth was born, is determined as the "cosmic abundance of an element." This cosmic abundance was determined based on the chemical analysis of a certain type of carbonaceous chondrite meteorite, which is thought to be the most primordial material currently available in the solar system, that is, to preserve the composition of the primordial solar nebula, and the spectroscopically measured chemical composition of the solar atmosphere.
