Japanese: ホツツジ - ほつつじ

A deciduous shrub of the Ericaceae family that grows in sunny, somewhat dry mountain areas. It branches well and spreads horizontally, reaching a height of 1-1.5m. The leaves are alternate, obovate or oblong, pointed at the tip, 3-8cm long and 1.5-3.5cm wide. In August and September, panicles form at the ends of the branches, and many white flowers bloom. There are small lanceolate bracts at the base of the peduncle. The calyx is cup-shaped, very shallow, and has five lobes. The corolla is deeply divided into three lobes, and the lobes are narrow oblong and strongly recurved. There are six stamens, and the filaments are flat. The anthers are longitudinally divided.

山地の日当りのよいやや乾いた所にはえるツツジ科の落葉低木。よく分枝して横に広がり，高さ1～1.5m。葉は互生し，倒卵形または長楕円形で先がとがり，長さ3～8cm，幅1.5～3.5cm。8～9月，枝先に円錐花序をつくり，多数の白い花をつける。花柄の基部に披針形の小さな包葉がある。萼は椀状でごく浅く，5裂する。花冠は深く3裂し，裂片は狭長楕円形で強く反り返る。おしべは6本で，花糸は扁平。葯は縦に裂ける。
