Aomi [town] - Oumi
An old town in Nishikubiki County, in the southwestern tip of Niigata Prefecture. Facing the Sea of ​​Japan, the mountains close in on the sea, forming the cliffs of Oyashirazu, and the Hokuriku Main Line and Hokuriku Expressway run along the coast. The town was a post town on the Hokuriku Highway in the early modern period, and in 1921 factories making calcium carbonate nitrate and other products were established using the limestone in the southern mountains, resulting in rapid development. Mining and industry are the main industries in the town. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Noe Town, Nishikubiki County, and Itoigawa City. 129.13 km2 . Population: 10,033 (2003).
