Just as the natural division between the savanna in the north and the tropical rainforest in the south is evident, the composition of the inhabitants is also clearly divided in terms of culture and language. The southern part is dominated by the Ewe people, who speak the Ewe language, which belongs to the Kwa language group, and live across southern Ghana and southern Benin. They are agriculturalists who cultivate maize, yams, oil palm, and cassava, and have recently introduced rice and cocoa.
