This is one of the most common diseases of silkworms. It is so named because the dead silkworms usually soften and rot. In general, the incidence rate is higher in summer, autumn, and late autumn silkworms than in spring silkworms. Depending on the cause of the disease, it is classified as infectious flacherie disease (F type), cytoplasmic (midgut type) polyhedrosis, bacterial digestive disease, fainting disease, and septicemia, and depending on the symptoms, it is classified as hollow, diarrheal, shrinking, vomiting, etc. In bacterial digestive disease, streptococci, Escherichia coli-like bacteria, Myxomycetes-like bacteria, and other bacteria are found in the digestive tract of diseased silkworms. Infectious flacherie disease and cytoplasmic polyhedrosis are caused by viruses, and they have come to be treated as viral diseases along with pustular disease.
