Folk performing art. A type of Furyuu dance, the Nembutsu dance is performed during the Bon festival in Ohmi, Shinshiro, Aichi Prefecture. On the nights of August 14th and 15th, three dancers carrying large fans on their backs, shimedaiko drums on their chests, and one person carrying a bamboo pole take the lead, and in a procession accompanied by flutes, gongs, and ondo musicians, they go around the grounds of temples and shrines and houses celebrating the first Bon festival, dancing valiantly while chanting Nembutsu. The dance includes a Hoga song, which is said to mean a Buddhist chant, but is also said to have been brought in by the Hoga monks.
