Wang Tongzhao

Chinese author. Born in Zhucheng County, Shandong Province. His courtesy name was Kensan. In 1918, he entered the preparatory school of the University of China in Beijing. He was involved in editing the magazine Dawn, and published aesthetic treatises, poems, novels, etc. In 1921, he became one of the founders of the Literature Research Society. After graduation, he became a lecturer at Peking University and a middle school teacher. During this period, he published the long novel Mountain Rain (1933), which vividly describes the situation of northern peasants at the time suffering under the oppression of bandits, warlords, and landlords, set against the backdrop of the ethnic crisis caused by the Japanese invasion. During the Anti-Japanese War, he taught at a university in Shanghai, and in 1936, he became the chief editor of Literature, and in 1941, the editor of Kaiming Bookstore. After liberation, he served as executive director of the Writers Association and a member of the Shandong Provincial People's Committee. His other works include the short story collection "Spring Rain Night" (1924) and the poetry collection "This Era" (1934).

中国の作家。山東(さんとう／シャントン)省諸城県生まれ。字(あざな)は剣三。1918年北京(ペキン)中国大学予科入学。『曙光』の編集に携わり、美学論、詩、小説などを発表。21年、文学研究会発起人の一人となる。卒業後、北京大学講師、中学教員となる。この時期、長編『山雨』（1933）を発表、日本軍侵略による民族的危機を背景に、当時の北方農民が土匪(どひ)、軍閥、地主等の圧迫に苦しむ状況を克明に描写した。抗日戦中は上海(シャンハイ)の大学で教鞭(きょうべん)をとるかたわら、36年『文学』主編、41年開明書店編輯(へんしゅう)となる。解放後、作家協会常務理事、山東省人民委員会委員などを務めた。ほかに短編集『春雨の夜』（1924）、詩集『この時代』（1934）など。
