「日本書紀」「古語拾遺」などに見える神。阿波の斎部(いんべ)氏の祖神。天照大神が天の岩屋戸に隠れた時、木綿(ゆう)で、祈祷用の和幣(にぎて)を作る。その子孫は木綿、麻の栽培を仕事とした。麻植神(おえのかみ)。
