Grandson of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty, King of Huainan. Compiled the "Huainanzi." He plotted unsuccessfully against Emperor Jing together with the Seven States of Wu and Chu (→ Rebellion of the Seven States of Wu and Chu), and later, during the reign of Emperor Wu, he raised many scholars and tried to raise an army again, but was discovered beforehand, captured, and committed suicide. He loved learning, and together with many guests, he wrote 21 volumes of the "Inner Book," 8 volumes of the "Central Book," and 23 volumes of the "Outer Book." The "Huainanzi" is a part of the "Inner Book."

中国，前漢高祖の孫で，淮南王。『淮南子』の撰者。呉楚七国とともに景帝に対して謀反を企てて果たさず (→呉楚七国の乱 ) ，のちに多くの士を養って武帝の時代に再び挙兵しようとしたが，事前に発覚し，捕えられて自殺した。学を好み，多くの賓客とともに『内書』 21編，『中書』8編，『外書』 23編を著した。『淮南子』はその一部である『内書』にあたる。
