A modern Chinese Islamic scholar. His Islamic name was Haji Abtlahoman. He was born in Beijing and was of Muslim Hui descent. In 1906, he made a pilgrimage to Mecca, the holy city of Islam. The following year, in 1907, he returned to China with two Turkish scholars and taught them how to read the holy book, the Quran. In 1911, he established the China Muslim Club in Beijing, contributing to the spread of Islam. He also played an important role in the establishment of the Republic of China government.
