List of Traffic - Tsuukou Iran

This is a collection of early modern diplomatic history materials compiled by the Edo Shogunate in the late early modern period. As part of a large-scale compilation project centered on the founding of the Tokugawa family, which was planned by Hayashi Jussai, it was completed after about four years by eleven editors, including Miyazaki Jirodayu Shigemi, under the supervision of Hayashi Daigaku no Kami Akira (Fukusai), at a record office established within the Shoheizaka Gakumonsho at the time. It goes without saying that the motivation for the compilation was a historical revision project to respond to the urgent international environment surrounding Japan at the time. The date when the compilation began is not necessarily clear, but it is thought to have been sometime not far before 1850 (Kaei 3). The contents of the book begin with the incident in 1566 (Eiroku 9) when a ship from Annamite was washed ashore at Katahamaura in Mikawa Province, and cover a large number of records relating to foreign negotiations up to the promulgation of the Order to Drive Away Foreign Ships in 1825 (Bunsei 8). The records are divided into two sections: by country (Ryukyu, Korea, Tang Dynasty, the Southern Barbarian countries, Holland, Angelia (Britain), Cambodia, Siam, Russia, and North America), and by the Nagasaki Foreign Trade Department. The appendix contains historical materials on coastal defense and other matters. The reason why the collection ended in 1825 can be seen from the legend that "This was due to a sudden change in the way the ship was handled." However, it is believed that the shocking event of the arrival of Perry during the compilation process made it necessary to compile a sequel (the previous volume is called the main volume). This main volume is thought to have been completed and presented at the end of 1853 or the beginning of 1854 (the first year of the Ansei era). This historical material is compiled very conscientiously, with the names of the historical materials included clearly stated and compiled with a summary document, and since many of the historical materials included have already been lost, it is a valuable first-class historical material for research in this field. The total number of volumes is unclear, but the existing version consists of 322 volumes of the main volume and 22 volumes of appendices, and the Kokusho Kankokai version consists of 8 volumes. The sequel consists of 152 volumes and 26 volumes of appendices, and the Seibundo version consists of 5 volumes.
