Born in the first year of the Chokan era. A Rinzai sect priest. He followed the teachings of Myoan Eisai at Jufuku-ji Temple in Kamakura, and gained the trust of Minamoto no Yoritomo, Hojo Masako, and others. He served as the abbot of Jufuku-ji Temple and Kennin-ji Temple, and in the second year of the Joo era, he opened Kongo Sammai-in Temple at Mount Koya, making it a training ground for both Zen and Esoteric Buddhism. He later became the founder of Jomyo-ji Temple and Tosho-ji Temple, both of which were founded by Hojo Yasutoki. He passed away on July 5, the second year of the Ninji era. He was 79 years old.
