Limestone from the Early Carboniferous to the Middle Permian Period found near Akiyoshi-dai in Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is a reef limestone containing many fossils such as corals, fusulinids, crinoids, and bryozoans. Nearly half of the strata are inverted, and the same strata overlap several times, suggesting the existence of a large-scale thrust fault and the associated recumbent folds. The Akiyoshi Limestone was deposited on a seamount, and is thought to form an accretionary complex with the surrounding terrigenous clastics.
