Heavy uterine bleeding occurs after the fetus and placenta are delivered due to poor uterine contraction. After the placenta is delivered, the uterine muscles contract strongly and close open blood vessels (vital ligation) to prevent bleeding, so the amount of bleeding in the later stages of delivery is normally only around 50g.
