Yorishige, the son of Ashikaga Yasuuji, called himself the Ishido clan. As a branch of the Ashikaga clan, the Ishido clan fought in various places in response to Ashikaga Takauji's uprising. Yorishige's son Yoshifusa was appointed supreme commander of Oshu, and while he acted as a military commander, he also exercised his authority to grant and secure territories and collect rice for military provisions, organizing the warrior class in Oshu and overwhelming the Southern Court.
