Wang Yinglin

Japanese: 王応麟 - おうおうりん
Wang Yinglin

A high-ranking official and Confucian scholar in the late Southern Song Dynasty of China. His courtesy name was Bohou and his pen name was Shenning. He was from Qingyuan Prefecture, Zhejiang Province. He passed the Jinshi examination and progressed through the ranks to become the Left Prime Minister, but during this time he was often oppressed by the powerful minister Jia Sidao. After the fall of the Song Dynasty, he retired to the countryside and devoted himself to writing, dying at the age of 74. Politically, he was not afraid of powerful ministers and discussed border defense. He was familiar with academics from an early age and had an extensive knowledge of classics and history. He wrote many books, among which his best known are "Kongaku Kibun," "Yu Hai," "Shi Ko," "Kanjo Geimonshikosho," "Kansei Ko," and "Xiaoxue Konju." His scholarship excelled in historical investigation, and all of these works have been of great benefit to future generations. They not only represent a pinnacle of Song Dynasty scholarship, but also became pioneers of later Qing Dynasty historical investigation.
