…　なお，スギの名のつく樹木にはスギ科以外にもナンヨウスギ(ナンヨウスギ科)，ヒマラヤスギ，レバノンスギ(以上マツ科)，ベイスギ，イトスギ(以上ヒノキ科)などがある。このような普通名の混用は英語のcedarについてもいえ，cedarそのものは，もともとヒマラヤスギ属の樹種ヒマラヤスギやレバノンスギを指すが，エンピツビャクシンred cedar，オニヒバincense cedar(以上ヒノキ科)などの，材に樹脂の多い針葉樹にも広く使われるようになった。また，中国で〈杉〉といえばスギ科のコウヨウザンをさすが，スギ科樹木のほかに冷杉，雲杉(以上マツ科)などのように語尾に杉の字のつくものは，たいてい針葉が松と柏（かしわ）の中間ぐらいの長さのものである。…
