Book of Sui

Japanese: 隋書 - ずいしょ
Book of Sui

One of the official histories of China. 85 volumes. It was compiled by Wei Zheng, Zhangsun Wuji and others under the orders of Emperor Taizong of Tang, and the actual authors were Yan Shigu, Kong Yingda and others. Originally, it was a historical record of the Sui dynasty, with 5 volumes of "Tei-ki" (Chronicles of the Emperor) and 50 volumes of "Retsuden" (Biographies), but later, also under the orders of Emperor Taizong, 10 volumes of "Zhi" (Records of the Five Dynasties) (known as "Godai Shizhi"), which were records of the systems (astronomy, criminal law, etc.) of the five dynasties of Liang, Chen, Northern Qi, Northern Zhou and Sui, were incorporated, resulting in the current format and number of volumes. In addition, the Touiden section on Wakoku contains an article on Japanese envoys to Sui that is not included in the Nihon Shoki.
