...It is also called R & B for short. The main genre is blues music that uses electric instruments to emphasize the beat and incorporates elements of jazz and gospel songs, but it is a fairly broad term that also includes small choruses with a light beat called doo-wop and sweet love ballads by solo singers. In the 1960s, the term fell out of use as it was succeeded by more sophisticated soul music.
