There are two types of analysis: analysis of extremely small amounts of samples, and analysis of components present in extremely small quantities. In the former, it does not matter whether the components are present in small or normal amounts, but the sample handled is usually about 1 to 10 milligrams, and there is no strict distinction. It is somewhere between semi-microanalysis and ultra-microanalysis, and uses special small equipment for chemical operations, and weighing is done with a microbalance designed for microanalysis. On the other hand, in the latter case, the sensitivity of the analytical method becomes an issue, and it is often difficult to analyze using chemical means alone, so recently high-sensitivity analytical methods using various equipment are often used.
