Princess Toichi - Princess Toichi

Japanese:
Princess Toichi - Princess Toichi
Year of death: 7th April 678 (3rd May 678)
Year of birth: Unknown
In the 7th century, she was the wife of Prince Otomo (son of Emperor Tenchi). Her father was Emperor Tenmu and her mother was Princess Nukata, and she was probably their first child. She gave birth to Prince Kazuno around the 8th year of Tenchi (669), but lost her husband in the Jinshin War in the 1st year of Tenmu (672). However, neither her mother Princess Nukata nor the princess were involved in the fighting. In the Uji Shui Monogatari and other sources, it is said that the princess had informed her father of her husband Otomo's movements, but we need to consider separately why neither the mother nor the daughter accompanied her husband during the war. It is clear that she stayed with her father after the war, and in the 4th year of Tenmu (675), she made a pilgrimage to Ise Grand Shrine. In the 7th year of the same year, she suddenly died at the palace. She was buried in Ako in Yamato. Possible locations for Ako include Takabatake-cho in Nara City, Akao in Sakurai City, and Miyoshi in Koryo-cho.
