A former town in Kami County in northwest Miyagi Prefecture. Occupying the upper reaches of the Naruse River, rice cultivation such as Sasanishiki is thriving. Livestock farming is also carried out. Yutori Swamp, on the border with the former Onoda Town, is a habitat for iron fish (a natural monument).
