...Nutrition metabolism is then disturbed, resulting in the appearance of various symptoms. Until the end of the 19th century, infant diarrhea was very common, and once diarrhea developed, it was difficult to cure, leading to poor nutritional status. German pediatrician Adalbert Czerny (1863-1941) proposed the concept of infantile malnutrition, which combined infant diarrhea and malnutrition as mutually causing and resulting in each other. Since then, this disease name has been used mainly by the German school, but the American school has traditionally considered infant diarrhea and malnutrition to be separate concepts.
