A general term for a group of hot springs located in the upper reaches of the Kinugawa River, northwest of Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture. Generally, it consists of Meotobuchi, Hachcho-no-yu, Kani-yu, Nikkoza Onsen, and Teshirozawa Onsen, which are located upstream from Kawamata Onsen, and each hot spring has only one inn. Meotobuchi Onsen is accessible by bus from Kinugawa Onsen Station on the Tobu Railway, but other hot springs are a walk away, so there are few visitors. Each hot spring has an open-air bath surrounded by forest, giving it a rustic hot spring atmosphere. The spring types include simple hot springs, sulfur springs, and chloride springs. Yuzawa Fountain Tower is a nationally designated natural monument. [Akihisa Sakurai] [References] | | | |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
