... In addition to these central settlements, or towns, large markets were sometimes established by feudal lords. In 1486 (Bunmei 18), the local lords Ochi and Kishida agreed to set up a market every day for one month from November 13th, building several hundred houses, and collecting market taxes. In 1572 (Genki 3), the Takeda clan set up one hundred market houses in front of the gates of Rinzai-ji Temple in Suruga Province, and held a regular market six times a month.
