Ten kinds of stone

Japanese:
Ten kinds of stone

A series of books from the end of the Edo period. Edited by Daruma-ya Kattoushi with the help of his foster father Hananoya Amaro (Daruma-ya Goichi). It consists of 10 parts in one volume and 6 volumes, but it was originally planned to have 10 volumes and 100 copies. Completed in 1863 (Bunkyu 3). "Enseki" means a stone that resembles a jewel, or an imitation. It is a compilation of interesting books on the customs of the Edo period, including "Takao Ko" (theories by various authors on Takao, a famous Yoshiwara prostitute), and is an extremely valuable resource for learning about events, social conditions, and human feelings in contemporary civil society. It was passed down in the form of a manuscript, but in 1907 (Meiji 40) it was published in three volumes by the Kokusho Kankokai, and subsequently new sequels, "Zoku Enseki Jyushu" (2 volumes) and "Shin Enseki Jyushu" (5 volumes), were edited and published.
