North River (English)

Japanese: 北渓字義 - ほっけいじぎ（英語表記）Běi xī zì yì

A kind of philosophical dictionary written by Chen Chun, a senior disciple of Zhu Xi (the son) during the Song Dynasty in China. It is also called "Seiri Jigi". Hokkei was Chen Chun's pen name. It explains the important concepts of Zhu Xi's philosophy. It was widely read in Korea and Japan as an introductory book and overview of Zhu Xi's philosophy. Hayashi Razan's commentary "Seiri Jigi Genkai" is an important book for understanding the level of Japanese Zhu Xi's philosophy at that time. The terms covered are as follows: life, nature, heart, emotion, talent, will, will, benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and faith, loyalty and faith, loyalty and compassion, consistency, sincerity, respect, respect, way, reason, virtue, Tai Chi, Emperor's Circle, neutral harmony, the doctrine of moderation, ritual and music, jing authority, righteousness, ghosts and gods, and Buddha and elders.
