Both are Christian saints. According to legend, they were brothers from Roman aristocratic families who fled persecution in the 3rd century and traveled to Soissons in France, where they preached the gospel while making shoes, and were later captured and martyred. They are the patron saints of shoemakers and leatherworkers. In artistic expression, they are represented by shoes and shoe lasts. Their worship is widespread throughout Europe, but is particularly popular in Soissons, where holy relics are kept, and in the 6th century a church was dedicated to them. Their feast day is October 25th. [Ide Kimi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
