Born: October 31, 1870, Beisley Died June 8, 1936. Stornoway. Scottish Free Church theologian and pastor. Also known as Mackintosh. After studying at the University of Edinburgh, he traveled to various universities in Germany. He was influenced by biblical criticism and theologian A. Ritschl, and introduced his teachings to the English-speaking world. He emphasized God's initiative prior to human work, and understood God's forgiveness of sins to be the center of the gospel. In Christology, he took the kenotic position that Christ, the Son of God, renounced his divinity by incarnating. His major works include The Doctrine of the Person of Jesus Christ (1912), The Christian Experience of Forgiveness (1927), and Types of Modern Theology, Schleiermacher to Barth (1937). Macintosh |
