[Gallbladder disease]
A normal gallbladder is almost never palpable from the outside of the abdominal wall. If a swollen, soft gallbladder can be felt without pain, it is highly likely that the outlet of the bile duct is completely blocked by cancer or other causes, and this finding, known as Courvoisier's sign, has long been considered important by doctors. If the gallbladder can be felt with pain, it may be due to a disease such as cholecystitis.
