A village in Ibi County, western Gifu Prefecture. Population 1,579 (1995). A mountain village located upstream of the Ibi River, with scattered settlements in the lowlands along the main tributaries of the river, the rest of the village is mountainous, part of the Mino-Echizen Mountains. The center of the village is Higashitsukumi on National Route 303, which is also the nearby bus terminal. In the past, paper, charcoal, and limestone production was thriving, but today the main industries are forestry and the cultivation of shiitake mushrooms and wasabi. The southern half of the village belongs to the Ibi-Sekigahara-Yoro Quasi-National Park. Higashitsukumi is home to the Kamakura Dance, which retains a medieval atmosphere.
