Tarumizu [city] - Tarumizu
A city in central Kagoshima Prefecture. Incorporated as a city in 1958. It occupies the coast of Kagoshima Bay on the Osumi Peninsula and borders Sakurajima. Most of the area is whitebait plateau, and early-season cultivation of fruit trees such as loquats and ponkan oranges, and vegetables such as snow peas is popular. Yellowtail and kuruma shrimp are also farmed. Kaigata Onsen is home to the city. Area: 162.12 km2 . Population: 17,248 (2010).
