…Their main writing style was the commentaria, but while they followed the order of the Corpus Juris Civilis, they already focused on the legal text, and did not stick as closely to the text as the glossae, placing emphasis on explaining legal propositions rather than the text itself. They also placed great emphasis on consilia, or advice on actual legal cases, given in response to requests from judges (and sometimes private citizens). What distinguishes them from the commentaries school is, above all, their intensive study of individual issues and their approach to current problems in legal practice, and, for this purpose, their development of flexible and precise methods of interpretation and argumentation, aided by high scholasticism. …
