[1] 〘 noun 〙① One of a pair of drumsticks. Also, the act of striking with it. In Noh, a special way of striking the drum is to strike the drum with only the drumstick in the right hand. ※Haiku, Gyokukaishu (1656), appendix, “A single handful of clouds in a shower, the more the drummer strikes the drum with the drumstick, the more the divine thunders (Tei-toku).” ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Danshoku -Daikan (1687), vol. 2, “This spring Tayu is performing a dance, Seigoro is using his tsuzumi, Mataemon is using his katabachi , which is the greatest of all.”② The name of a shamisen playing technique. A technique in which the drum is played with only one side of the drumstick, without scooping. It is used in contrast to morobachi , which are played and then immediately scooped, such as teren and toron. Katabachibushi . ③ One of the popular songs from the early Edo period. It was popular in pleasure quarters from the Kanei period ( 1624-1644 ). *From the Kana Zoushi Nurebotoke (1671): "Katabachi Moroki wa dew, who said, I will not even put my body on the grass, Yoshino" [2] The title of a shamisen group song. A song that incorporates (1)② and is remade in the style of a group song. Hadekatabachi (broken hand drumstick) .

[1] 〘名〙① 太鼓などの一対の撥のうちの一方。また、それで打つこと。能楽で太鼓の特殊な打ち方として、右手の撥だけで太鼓を打つこと。※俳諧・玉海集(1656)付句下「一にぎりある夕立の雲 かたはちで太皷うつほど神鳴て〈貞徳〉」※浮世草子・男色大鑑(1687)二「今春太夫が舞に、清五良が鞁(つづみ)、又右衛門がかた撥(バチ)、いづれか天下芸」② 三味線の奏法の名称。撥の片面だけで弾くもので、すくうことをしない方法。テレン、トロンなどと、弾いてすぐすくう諸撥(もろばち)に対していう。片撥節(かたばちぶし)。③ 江戸初期の流行歌(はやりうた)の一つ。寛永(一六二四‐四四)の頃から遊里で流行した。※仮名草子・ぬれぼとけ(1671)中「かたばち もろきは露と誰がいひそめた我身も草におかぬばかりよ よし野」[2] 三味線組歌の曲名。(一)②を取り入れて、組歌風に作り直した曲。破手片撥(はでかたばち)
