1908‐42 German composer and organist. He served as organist at the Jacobi Church in Lübeck, and later taught composition and organ at the Higher Conservatories of Stuttgart and Berlin. He had a deep respect for Schütz and Bach, and contributed to the musical life of the German Protestant church through his own compositions and performances. His compositions include many choral pieces, such as "The Christmas Story" (1933) and "Sacred Choral Pieces" (1941). Other works include "Harpsichord Concerto" (1936) and "Organ Sonata" (1939).
