North America - kitaamerica

…the continent that separates the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean in the Western Hemisphere. A general term for the Americas and the West Indies. The name America is said to be derived from the name of the Italian navigator and explorer Amerigo Vespucci, who explored Central and South America. It was first used in Martin Waldseemüller's Introduction to the World History, published in 1507.
